When is clean really clean?
This question came to us via our Ask the Experts portal from an engineer trying to improve the effectiveness of plastic bonded to metal. When it comes to bonding dissimilar materials, it can be difficult to determine cleanliness, as most “cleaning” techniques actually leave a thin layer of contamination behind. This layer can attract air bubbles which will impede a secure bond. But removing all traces of inorganic contamination also eliminates this problem, and plasma surface modification does just that.
