TriStar has scored another win with Rulon® brand products — this time with a leading manufacturer of motor control and power conversion technologies. Our client reports that Rulon® J has tripled the average lifespan of piston wear bands, piston seals, and rod wear bands located on their DC drive air compressor units. Want to learn how we may be able to do the same for your business?

Rulon® at the ready

As the exclusive supplier of Rulon®, TriStar offers a host of Rulon® variations, including 641 and LR. And with our recent purchase of $1 million in Rulon® stock, we are well positioned to deliver the material you need — when you need it. Here’s how we helped solve one client’s application challenge with Rulon® J:

Our client came to us with the need to increase the lifespan on their drive air compressor units, which are used to control motors on everything from off-road racing to military transport vehicles. Since the compressors are powered by electricity — not gas — the units had very specific needs; the material would have to provide good leakage and stability control, offer low friction and boast self-lubrication. Plus, it would need to perform in exceptionally dry and demanding operating conditions; our client cited the carbon graphite material they were using was not up to the job.

Trial and Success

After close consultation, our engineers suggested that either Rulon® 123 or Rulon® J would be a good match. Both offer low friction and wear against soft mating materials, good thermal properties, and can be machined to tight tolerances. After a trial period, our client found that both materials exceeded their expectations, but Rulon® J gave the best overall result. And their end users are thrilled with the tripled life span of the new material.

Our team has also employed Rulon® J on a number of similar compressor applications, including wear pads on Scotch Yoke devices for oxygen compressors, spring-energized seals for inert gas compressors, scroll tip seals for CO2 compressors, oxygen generators for life support devices and wear poppets for air check valves. Simply, Rulon® offers it all; high efficiency, low maintenance, self-lubrication, and value.

Let us help you match the right Rulon® material to your next application challenge by evaluating the speed, load, temperature and lubrication of your hardware. Problems with Wettability
There is usually a good correlation between bonding and wetting, but not always. Two different cases where this correlation can break down are: 1) where the surface is wettable but the structure beneath (the "bulk property" of the material) the surface is too weak to have good bond strength and 2) where the surface is not wettable by water but there is still excellent bonding. ...
