TriStar is proud to “sit at the table” with the top pasta-making equipment manufacturers. By converting their traditional bearing materials to Ertalyte® TX, our client gained pasta perfection - a 50% increase in wear-life and a reduction in equipment maintenance costs.

Passionate about pasta

Naturally, our client is passionate about their product line. They are a major producer of dry pasta, with manufacturing plants throughout the US. Their specialties include shapes like penne, rotini, capellini, lasagna and more. But they were losing crucial production time and incurring high maintenance costs on their ravioli assembly line because of the constant need to change bearings. They needed a bearing that could withstand the sticky and abrasive consistency of pasta dough, and, more importantly, would pass all applicable guidelines for food service production.

Reworking Ravioli

After closely examining the production process, our team noted that once the pasta dough was mixed and kneaded, it was flattened into sheets while the filling was extruded from the hopper into the ravioli molds. The rotor machine included a guide bar to assist in measuring and depositing the right amout of cheese and other fillings. The traditional bearings they were using — Acetal and UHMW — were functional, but prone to clogging and abrasion.

We recommended Ertalyte TX for its excellent wear and abrasion resistance, and high mechanical strength. Ertalyte also gives superior lubricity, precision performance, and shines in food production. With Ertalyte in place, our client reports their bearings are lasting up to 50% longer.

Decoding Rulon
Did you realize there are probably over 300 types of Rulon? Rulon is a self-lubricating material that can almost be considered “generic” in some ways. It is a PTFE material with various fillers; it is the type and amount of filler that makes each variation of Rulon unique. When choosing Rulon, ...
