TriStar’s Surface Modification Division (SMD) is currently working with several medical diagnostic suppliers to prepare and enhance the surface of their plastic components for a number of medical and scientific applications.
Items such as 96- and 384-well microplates and microfluidic devices used in cell generation, along with other products used in microarrays, immunoassays and tissue culture media, are treated for improved hydrophobic or hydrophilic surface conditions.
Using our vacuum gas plasma processes along with additional chemistries, TriStar not only changes the surface tension of the plastic materials but can also functionalize the surface for improved molecular adhesion.
Amino, carboxylic and hydroxylic functionality is very common to well plate treatments. These processes can be done on any of the standard medical grade materials such as polystyrene and polypropylene.
TriStar is also using plasma technology for devices used in surgical applications. In certain applications, it is desirable to enhance materials such as PEEK and PVC to accept short and long term release medications such as Heparin, Marcain and Epinephrine. These medications are critical to the short term care of patients as they go through surgery and subsequent recovery.
TriStar’s Surface Modification Division (SMD) has increased process capacity to meet this ever
expanding need in the medical and biomedical market as well as in any market requiring the modification of the surface of polymers, elastomers and films.
