Featured Rulon Applications

The Rulon® family of products offers the end user a diverse choice of materials to solve the most demanding operating conditions. Some examples of solutions are:

Steam Valve Actuator - Pulp and Paper Industry
Rulon LR replaced greased bronze bushings in large gate valves at a steam plant of a paper mill. Zero maintenance has been required and performance after 2 years of service is virtually the same as the day of installation.

Donut Making Machinery - Food Processing Industry
Rulon 641 bearings are used in hot oil environments on donut production equipment. Rulon 641 is FDA cleared for direct food contact, non-abrasive to stainless steel roller shafts and compatible with normal sanitizing procedures.

Chemical Mixers - Process Industry
Rulon 123 thrust and sleeve bearings replaced expensive rolling element bearings and other less compatible plane bearing materials in chemical mixers. Since the customer never knows for sure what the media being mixed may be, Rulon 123 offers a single material able to meet the chemical, temperature and hardware environments in the mixer.

Wear Plates - Railway Industry
Lowest friction possible was the requirement for a transit car manufacturer and Rulon J offers the lowest coefficient of friction of all Rulon's. Customer also required zero lubrication performance and longest possible life. Unlubricated wear properties of Rulon J exceed all other Rulon's due to the unique reinforcing polymer.

Drill Casing Guides - Petroleum Industry
Elastomeric casing guides used in drilling operations have very high sliding friction and that produces frictional heat and wear. Introduction of Rulon 142 wear pads on the dynamic face of the guides has reduced friction, increased the useful life of this normally expendable component.

Glass Tempering Oven - Conveyor Industry
Oilite bronze bushings lose their migratory lubricants in this 450°F environment. Rulon 488 was developed for oven bearings due to the unique quality it has of improving in wear and friction as the temperatures increase. No lubrication is required and life expectancy is years as opposed to months of service.

Manifold Plates - Can Making Industry
Rulon LR offers the proper blend of friction, wear and life in this difficult 24/7 environment of can production. Other materials have been tried but with limited success and Tri-Star's ability to bond the Rulon to the customer's metal substrate offers a true value added quality for this industry.

Gib and Way Liners - Metal and Woodworking Machinery
Developed as a competitive product to Turcite B Slydway®, Rulon 142 offers the end user an excellent low friction wear surface for X, Y, Z slides. Able to function unlubricated up to 400 fpm, Rulon 142 is an excellent insurance policy for expensive machine tool guide ways. Available in .015, .031, .047, .062, .093 and .125" thickness and 12" widths. CE211 2 part adhesive with self leveling bond line controls is also available from Tri-Star.

Piston Arm Wear Pads - Compressor Industry
Bonded Rulon J slide pads replaced lubricated bronze on reciprocating piston guides for production compressors. Low friction and long, unlubricated wear life were critical to the performance of the compressor. Rulon J is also utilized as the piston cup on wobble style compressors.

For your most difficult applications where temperature, chemical resistance and wear life is a factor, consider the Rulon family of materials. Contact Tri-Star Plastics Corp. for material selection assistance at 1-800-TRISTAR or visit our website www.tstar.com for more information.
