TriStar Plastics Corp. was contracted to engineer a solution for a unique application - a rotary table that applies special thermal and optical coatings to high-end light bulbs using a PCVD (plasma chemical vapor deposition) process. The rotary table is exposed to a vacuum environment, constant high temperatures, 24-7 operation and must have extremely low friction.
The TriStar engineering team determined the bearing retainers supporting the rotary table which carry the bulbs had to be able to survive temperatures exceeding 500F, could not outgas in the vacuum chamber and had to be dimensionally thermally stable to meet the challenges of the application. The solution was to manufacture custom machined ball retainers utilizing our Ultraflon 500-955 with ceramic ball bearings.
